CALIFORNIA ANIMAL REGULATIONS – DRACONIAN.

DRASTIC ANIMAL REGULATIONS PROPOSED FOR CALIFORNIA

The California Veterinary Medical Board issued proposed regulations that would make it illegal to practice complementary animal services (specifically any animal massage, water therapy, magnet or laser/photonic services) unless you are a veterinarian or a licensed animal physical therapist or registered veterinary technician working under the direct supervision of a veterinarian. The language of the regulations is so broad that it could be interpreted to include any complementary animal practitioner who does any of the following with animals: consultation, evaluation, treatment and/or instruction. The animal owner will not be penalized but the consequences to the practitioners and animals could be devastating:

* Alternative/complementary animal practitioners could potentially lose their businesses.
* Consumers would lose their right to choose a practitioner of their choice.
* Millions of animals currently receiving treatment as well those who, in the future will need such treatment will suffer.

These regulations are far stricter than what is required for the parent of a child, and they do not make any sense.

UPDATE
The California Veterinary Medical Board (Board) is now deliberating on whether to pass the proposed regulations as promulgated at the recent September 10 hearing in Sacramento, or to change them to address some or all of the concerns and requests that were part of the written and oral comments from the public.

Vet Boards in other states have attempted this kind of draconian regulation and sadly, have been successful in some. Animal owners and complementary animal practitioners in California have decided to join forces to retain the freedoms we currently have to make our own decisions regarding the services we choose for our animals. We are taking a united stand to keep complementary practices affordable and available.

NEXT VET BOARD MEETING
The Board has announced that it will be meeting next in San Diego on October 20th. It is expected the Board will announce an action at this meeting.

WHAT WE ARE DOING

1. Organizing to get the word out to the 38 million Californians who have no idea this is happening.
2. Preparing a legal challenge to these regulations.

WHO WE ARE
We are a group of California animal owners and complementary practitioners working to save our right to choose the best health and wellness practices for our animals, and to save our businesses.
